Context
What does Jubo Self Care APP do?
Jubo Self Care APP is a physiological value measurement APP for the general public especially for the elderly
Record physiological values of devices, including blood pressure, blood oxygen, forehead temperature, blood sugar, and pulse, etc.
After successfully pairing the measuring device with the Self Care APP, the measured physiological values can be uploaded to the cloud record synchronously.
Challenge
General public, especially for the elderly, face difficulties during physiological measurement device pairing process
Original version had only a few lines of complex and unified instruction for pairing physiological measurement devices, lacking comprehensible guidance. The elderly tend to feel difficult understanding the operation, requiring them to spend a lot of time figuring out how to connect the devices with the app.
Solution
More Smooth and Intuitive User Flow and GIF Step-by-step Instructions with Automatic Carousel
Each physiological measurement device has a specific automatic GIF pairing instructions, rather than just vague and unified texts.
Graphic step-by-step instructions for pairing devices allow users to easily match the buttons on devices and, understand their operation methods.
The prompt for successful pairing and the operation for unpairing are clear and comprehensible.

Why Redesign the Device Pairing Process?
B2B v.s. B2C
Potential Problems
The current and expected measuring device pairing process and operation methods are very different.General public and older adults tend to be unfamiliar with B2B device pairing process and feel it hard to understand the use of the device itself.
General public and older adults tend to be unfamiliar with B2B device pairing process and feel it hard to understand the use of the device itself.
Lack of device descriptions and guidance for pairing steps, resulting in an unsmooth pairing process.

Rearrange the User Flow and bring up Optimizations
User Flow
After understanding primary difficulties participants have encountered and organizing critical users’ needs, I rearrange the user flow of device pairing process, in order to fit better with the users’ needs for B2C purposes.
What can be Optimized?
I sorted out general directions to optimize the device pairing process based on the refined user flow.
It is necessary to clearly guide the user to add a new device.
Categorize different kinds of devices and enlarge their pictures.
Different devices require different pairing instructions.
Modify the unpairing process.

Confirm if we Solved Problems of the Original Edition
I conducted second usability test of First Prototype to confirm that redesign edition has solved problems of the original edition and whether new problems arise. Afterward, I organize users’ feedbacks for pairing instructions to optimize it as Second Prototype.
Usability Testing for Redesign Edition
Purpose
Test if participants can understand instructions of pairing measuring devices, and if the process is smoother.
Confirm whether the redesign edition can reduce the error rate while pairing and unpairing devices.
Key Finding
Reduce manual operation and enhance automation for page transitions.
Reduce misleading and redundant description texts.

Retrospect
Impact on the Company
Device pairing process and user interface of the Second Protoytype are not only used in the Jubo Self Care APP, but also in Jubo's Hi Home care APP, Joygood APP and other related APPs with device measurement and health status recording functions. In addition, the task completion time and user error rate of the measuring device pairing task were calculated during usability testings. Results show that Second Prototype's task completion time and user error rate were both significantly reduced.
