Individual project
Digital experiences have gone through many discrete aesthetic movements or “design periods.” Each period brings with it a different understanding of what elements are appropriate to include and differing expectations of decoration or minimalism, leading to what we “feel” as a distinct style. As a result, the objective is to take an existing interface and re-interpret it in three different styles to explore what about an interface remains constant and what can be playfully re-imagined.
Line TV is a video and media streaming platform owned by Japan-based Line Corporation but operating mainly in Taiwan, and previously Thailand. It is a free-to-access, advertisement-supported service, available via mobile applications, websites, and digital media players.
Movies and TV shows have been very important entertainments since long time ago, from the film reel to modern digital cinema; from retro small TV to video streaming website on the computer, human witnessed the profound changes of movies and TV show evolutions over time.So it would be very interesting to redesign the interface of the video streaming platform I usually use. I tried to present some symbolic and prominent elements in three different styles, so as to distinguish them by eras and create matching experiences respectively.
The characteristic of American retro color scheme is combinationo of warmer colors like brown, beige, orange, and yellow with a simple and stable feeling. At the same time adding some dark colors to create a calm feeling.
The backgrounds of video streaming websites are often solid colors or dark mode, maybe because it is easier to highlight the thumbnails of videos or images, so that users don’t consider the information too cluttered. However, sometimes the dark mode can be strenuous for users to watch for a long time, so I try to design minimal and cleaner UI. I only use basic colors like red, yellow, and blue, along with all white background gradient pink and purple as the embellishment.
My imagination and potential trends of future movies and video streaming are related to the Head-up Display (HUD), so I design the movie banners around the concept of transparent and three-dimensions touch screens.
